Leading in business is like life and that you can make it a lot easier for yourself if you stay awake…if you pay attention to your surroundings and respond to them. This as opposed to responding to what you think is happening or projecting your thoughts and emotions onto the world around you.
In the case of leadership at work…staying conscious…knowing yourself and your propensity to project and remaining awake makes it so much easier to practice emotional intelligence.
In our busy day-to-day I know it can be so easy to slip into a slumber where we just slog through the day. When this happens we’re slogging through all of our encounters with the people we have relationships with. This results in missing a lot of daily opportunities to really connect with people and motivate them.
